A friend recommended Tin Shed for a killer brunch, so I headed out there to see what all the fuss is about. First, let me say that you will encounter a line if you don’t get there early (yes, even on weekdays). We waited for about a half an hour before we were seated. But there was so many cute shops and things to see in the neighborhood that it didn’t feel so long.
We ate in the outdoor courtyard that had a roof (there’s also a section that is completely open). It was a lot of fun sitting here because you get to people watch and SO many people bring their dogs here. I believe they even have a menu with some preferred treats for your pooch too! When I was finally able to tear myself away from all the adorable canines, I looked over the brunch menu and followed up with our waitress (who also happened to be Vegan) about Vegan options. They have several on the menu, but she recommended that I get “The Latin” a concoction that is not listed on the menu. She also dubbed it “The-Vegan-Thing-That’s-Not-On-The-Menu.” You have to love Portland! So, I took a chance and got it. I was not at all disappointed. The hash browns were crispy and prepared to perfection! The tofu scramble was so flavorful, especially coupled with avocado, tomato, and a spicy aioli sauce. The toast was great and they even provided Earth Balance Vegan butter to put on it! I couldn’t ask for anything more. They also serve juices and coffee with plant-based milk alternatives.
Tin Shed definitely lives up to the hype and is well worth the wait. I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re looking for a hearty brunch with a friendly, laid-back atmosphere, you came to the right place. Pull up a chair, enjoy the atmosphere, and chow down on some really badass food.
