Getting in Touch With Nature at the Lion Country Safari in Loxahatchee, FL

I’m a huge animal lover, so I could not resist the chance to visit the drive-thru safari while I was in Florida. While I’m always an advocate of experiencing animals in the wild, in their natural habitat, I am happy to support sanctuaries that do their best to emulate the habitat and preserve the species. Many African wildlife have been pushed to the brink of extinction due to habitat destruction and poaching. So places like Lion Country Safari truly make a difference.

When I went through the safari, I was amazed at the stunning beauty of all the animals. The animals were so close and so at peace. My favorites were the lions, rhinos, and giraffes. I even got to feed a giraffe at the amusement park! It only costs $2.50 to get a few pieces of lettuce. The hungry giraffe was so sweet. She was very gentle in her approach and her spindly tongue was so funny to watch as it snapped up the leaf eagerly. It was truly a unique experience.

Animals are authentic in their behavior and their manner. Just having the opportunity to experience them in an open environment was therapeutic and really special. Get out and spend time with an animal, whether it’s a cat, dog, or hamster; you will feel a lot better for it. If you don’t have a pet, volunteer at a local shelter. Your time and attention means the world to them.

A herd of beautiful zebra. They frolicked about and were very playful with one another. It was interesting to see how peacefully they co-exited with the other animals, especially the rhinos.

A rhino grazing lazily without a care in the world. We drove right by them without any threat in sight. I was impressed at the number of white horned rhinos they had. I couldn’t take enough pictures!

This magnificent giraffe looked directly at me while I took this shot. It’s almost as if he knew I was looking for the money shot and he happily obliged.
